Angela Stribling:

Angela's Travel Tips

As a vocalist, it is vital to keep my body hydrated at all times. This is my instrument. No matter what your lifestyle, you need water too. It may not be the most convenient thing ... but, you have to stay hydrated! Especially in these warmer temperatures. Whether you're traveling, going to festivals, or just active around the yard, water is vital. When you exercise, you need even more. Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water. Blood is mostly water, and your muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a lot of water. Your body needs water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to all your organs. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your joints and organs. It may be difficult to drink enough water on a busy day, so be sure you have water handy at all times by keeping a bottle of water with you when you are working, traveling, or exercising. If you get bored with plain water, add a bit of orange, lemon or lime for a touch of flavor. There are some brands of flavored water available, but watch for extra calories.

Sis, I love your advice and you are so right. I came across this email that talks about "Drinking Water at the Correct Time"... It's a little tidbit to consider. I've always known to drink a lot of water, but who knew the timing effected things. Drinking water at the correct time maximizes its effectiveness on the human body. 2 glasses of water after waking up helps activate internal organs. 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion. 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure and 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack. It's easy enough to get in the habit of doing.

Good advice - especially this time of year! I especially love the water offered at many of the spas that are flavored with orange slices ... so refreshing!

Hi Angela - I live in Las Vegas where the heat is very dry and can be a bit overwhelming - since you are a vocalist, I figure you of all people should know what you are talking about! I understand the need to stay hydrated, but I do get bored with regular water and am unsure of which flavored waters contain the least amount of sugars and calories while still maintaining flavor - could you please recommend some flavored waters that work for you? Thanks!
